President Rodrigo Duterte and United States President-elect Donald Trump are expected to talk at the telephone late Friday night.
The Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Marie Banaag confirmed the development.
However, she provided no further details on the expected conversation between the two leaders.
"As to kung anong pag-uusapan, ‘yun ang hindi pa natin alam kung anong pwede, pwede nilang pag-usapan," she said.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. on Thursday had already hinted that a phone conversation between Duterte and Trump may happen soon.
But he stressed that the Philippines will push for an independent foreign policy despite the upcoming change in leadership in the US.
"Sa palagay ko naman, regardless of who became President, especially now with Trump, ang relasyon natin with the United States will not only remain strong and firm, but will only grow stronger," he said.
Duterte previously said he believes he will have a good working relationship with Trump.
