Nine found dead in Cebu flooding



Nine people including four children were killed in Cebu because of heavy flooding brought about by tropical depression "Crising."

Eight of the nine fatalities came from  northern Carmen, Cebu where a river overflowed due to nonstop rains since Black Saturday.
Carmen is 48 kilometers north of Cebu City.

One of the deaths reported by police is from Carmen's neighboring Danao City, located some 32 kilometers north of Cebu City.
Danao City Police are conducting a rescue operation in Cagatlamac while police in Carmen are pursuing rescue and retrieval operations for victims of the flood.
Floods in barangays Ipil and Poblacion, Carmen have subsided since morning but water is still knee-deep in Cagatlamac, Danao City, where some residents have also been affected.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said 73 houses in Carmen were either destroyed or damaged by the sudden swelling of the town's river.
The disaster management office also reported minor landslides in Talisay City, south of Cebu City, and in Sogod town in northern Cebu.
A river in northern Bogo City also swelled last night. No casualties were reported in these areas.
Several streets in Cebu City were also flooded, but waters have since subsided. No injuries or deaths from the area were reported.
'Crising' made landfall in Eastern Samar last night, bringing rains with gusty winds in areas of the Visayas and Bicol.
