The Gov't of Russia wants long-term defense cooperation with Philippines

On Tuesday the government of Russia is interested in having a long-term military cooperation with the Philippines, Russian Ambassador Igor Khovaev told reporters.
Khovaev made the remarks following President Rodrigo Duterte and Russian President Vladimir Putin's meeting in Peru last week.
It also came on the heels of Duterte's pronouncements that the Philippines could get Russian arms if its treaty ally the United States would not provide the weapons.
“We are not interested to make short-term supplies of arms and weapons. We are interested in long-term cooperation…. The package of our support is comprehensive. We are interested in comprehensive cooperation,” Khovaev said.
He added that such cooperation would be in accord with international laws and controls.
“We are open for cooperation in the military field with all interested partners, of course with full compliance with the international law and development multilateral arms control regimes," Khovaev said.
Khovaev said aside from weapons, Russia was willing to share defense technology.
"We are ready to transfer development technologies. We are ready to assist interested partners in staff training and maintenance of arms and weapons we supply,” Khovaev said.
