Super typhoon Lawin (international name Haima) captured high-resolution video and images in Japan Meteorological Agency's (JMA) Himawari-8 weather satellite on Tuesday, super typhoon is fast approaching the Philippines.
JMA, which is the designated Regional Specialized Meteorological Center in Asia and Northwestern Pacific, has classified Lawin as violent typhoon, the highest of its typhoon intensity classifications.
The Himawari-8 images and footage are available on the website of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Regional and Mesoscale Meteorology Branch.

The U.S. Naval Observatory's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) on Tuesday night also classified Lawin as a super typhoon with an intensity similar to Category 5 hurricanes in the North Atlantic and Northeast Pacific.
The JTWC, which takes shorter measurements than the Philippine state weather bureau PAGASA, expects Lawin to reach peak intensity Wednesday before landfall with sustained winds estimated to reach 269 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 324 kph.
In comparison, JTWC estimated super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) to have attained one-minute sustained winds of 315 kph and gusts of up to 378 kph.
The U.K. Meteorological Office, which is also closely monitoring Lawin, on Tuesday said the tropical cyclone will bring between 300 to 500 mm of rain, which means flooding and mudslides are likely in areas in its path.
PAGASA, which has raised public storm warning signals over northern Luzon, said the tropical cyclone is expected to make landfall over Cagayan Area by Thursday early morning before it crosses Apayao and Ilocos Norte.
