Good News! Starting at June 12, Phil Gov’t launches free Wi-Fi across 24-km EDSA

Free public Wi-Fi will be available across the whole 24-kilometer stretch of EDSA starting June 12,  on Independence Day.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will be making high-speed internet connectivity available at street level in Metro Manila Philippines main thoroughfare, it announced on Saturday.

The Government said, agency had set up access points in all Metro Rail Transit (MRT) stations and in between stations.

Service testing of the project will be done on Sunday, June 10.

The project is in line with the good President Rodrigo Duterte's promise during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) that the government will provide free Wi-Fi services in public areas nationwide.

"Wi-Fi access shall be provided at no charge in selected public places including parks, plazas, public libraries, schools, government hospitals, train stations, airports, and seaports," he said.

Strongman leader President Duterte had also ordered the DITC to develop a national broadband plan.
