The camp of former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is disappointed on how Leni Robredo is linking her election protest to the burial of former Nation Builder Ferdinand Marcos at the LNMB.
"It is very disappointing and disconcerting that former Rep. Leni Robredo is trying to connect the issue of BBM's Election Protest to the burial of his father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani insinuating that the latter is a way of supposedly 'stealing' the vice presidency away from her," Atty. Vic Rodriguez, legal spokesperson of Bongbong said.
Rodriguez clarified that they have no plans of "stealing" the vice presidency, maintaining that Bongbong was the real winner of the May vice-presidential polls.
"We have no plans of stealing something that we obviously won to begin with. It is our position that BBM won the vice presidential race and had it not been for the systematic fraud and unprecedented maneuverings committed on the day of the elections, he should have been the one proclaimed," Rodriguez said.
Robredo on Monday, raised her concerns over a possible "concerted effort" to remove her from the vice presidency after receiving alleged reports of a possible vote recount.
On Friday, Robredo immediately released a statement on the late dictator's burial which she described as "like a thief in the night."
Rodriguez, however, said that indeed there was a thief in the night which happened during the May polls.
"Yes indeed there was a thief in the night, and it happened on the night of the elections - shortly after the script in the Transparency Server was changed," he said.
Rodriguez added: "Having repeatedly asserted that they won the election fair and square, they should be the first to welcome a recount to prove once and for all the truth to their claims. Discrediting the process this early on, are they afraid of a vote recount? Are they afraid to know the truth?"
The Marcos camp also alleged Robredo wants to undermine the proceedings of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) by accusing the former of moving for a vote recount without the direction of PET.
"Such is a blatant and malicious lie, a figment of one's imagination meant to deceive the public. Robredo, who is a lawyer, should know that there is no way a recount can be done without the approval of the PET or even the Commission on Elections," Atty. Vic Rodriguez said.
