Member of the "Espinosa drug group" operating in Eastern Visayas surrendered to the Albuera, Leyte police Friday morning after almost two months of going into hiding.
Police identified him as Max Miro, who claimed he belonged to the group called "M4" headed by suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, son of Albuera town mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. In early August, the older Espinosa turned himself in to the PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa after he was included in President Rodrigo Duterte's second drug list.
Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido, town police chief, said Miro also led the authorities to his residence to recover three kilos of shabu (estimated street value of ₱24 million) which had been stashed away under a cabinet. They also recovered various police and military uniforms.
Miro said he decided to surface for fear of his life since police operations against their group had been relentless. He said he had been under the employ of Kerwin for a long time and their group would be able to sell a kilo of shabu in just over a month's time.
Espenido added prior to Miro's surrender, his other cohorts had already given up, namely: Tonipet Zaldivar, Galo Bobares and Dinan Rondian. Only Kerwin remained at large.
